A recent suicide involving a 15-year-old British boy may be linked to an increase in his Ritalin prescription according to a story published in the Daily Mail.
Anthony Cole had been taking Ritalin to combat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for six years but had recently had his dosage increased. Shortly after the increase the teen began acting differently around his family and on Saturday his father found him hanging in his room.
According to the boy’s father, Colin Cole, when Anthony had been “snappy” and acting as if he had been in a “trance” several days leading up to his death.
While Ritalin is said to counter hyperactivity it has also been blamed for causing manic behavior.
