A boat carrying more than double its capacity capsized in India’s Ganges river, leaving at least 25 people dead and several more still missing.
According to reports the boat had been ferrying about 60 people to a temple in Ballia district when it collapsed under its own weight as it entered midstream. Officials have said as many as 17 passengers managed to swim to safety but the hopes of finding any more survivors is slim.
The majority of the passengers were said to be women and children.
