Wade Wants to Stay in Miami

NBA Star Likely to Stay with First Team

With the free agency date right around the corner (July 1), 2006 NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade seems perhaps more certain than ever before that he would like to stay with the Miami Heat, the only NBA team for which he has ever played. According to a report from ESPN.com, Wade said, "I've made that very clear. Do I want to leave? Nope. Mmm-hmm. I want to be in Miami. That's where it starts." Ever since Wade said that he intended to talk with other soon-to-be free agents like Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson, there has been a lot of speculation about when the "free agency summit" will go down. But Wade's agent has said that there will be no "summit" as it were; in other words, there will be no set time and place for all of these players to meet and discuss their futures. Rather, Wade will likely discuss free agency plans with each of these players but not necessarily with all of them at the same time. Wade said, "I don't do recruiting. Not now, anyway. I don't look at it as recruiting. I'll gauge and see if guys want to be [in Miami], who wants to be with me. It's about who can come to Miami, it's about who do you trust, who can fit the organization, who best fits you as a player, things of that nature." Wade told the Sun Sentinel that he met individually with both Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson this past week. As for the future of 2-time NBA MVP LeBron James, who is widely considered to be one of the hottest free-agency prospects this year, Wade said, "I have no idea. I don't know about anyone else... He's going to decide for himself. Everyone has their thoughts of what's going to happen. No one knows. I don't even think LeBron knows." (Sources: ESPN.com)
