St. Patrick's Day Commemorated March 17

March 17 is St. Patrick's Day, the national holiday of Ireland.

St. Patrick's Day is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick, one of the patron saints of Ireland. The holiday is celebrated by people of Irish descent worldwide and is synonymous with alcohol and parades.

The largest St. Patrick's Day parade is in New York City, which has almost 2 million spectators annually. In 2005, the Chicago River was dyed green in commemoration of the holiday.

There are other things synonymous with the famed Irish holiday as well. On St. Patty's Day, many people look for an Irish blessing or a prayer. It is the day for anyone to embrace Irish culture by memorizing Irish quotes and sayings, listening to Irish music, singing Irish songs or wearing clothes with a four leaf clover or shamrock on them.
