Body Found in Rumble of New York Crane Collapse Wreckage

The death toll related to Saturday’s crane collapse in Manhattan’s East Side in New York has risen to at least five after the body of a construction worker was discovered on Monday.

On Sunday New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg acknowledged “There’s no sign of life so far,” yet Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta has insisted “We're still calling it a search operation.”

The search continues for at least two others who remain missing following the crane collapse that crashed into an apartment building on Saturday. The 19-story high crane had been on a site that was constructing high-rise condos when it broke free of its attachment and toppled into building in the East Side.

A construction worker is still listed as missing as is a woman who had traveled from Miami to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a friend who lived in the apartment building.
