2010 FIFA World Cup Scores: New Zealand Nets Goal in Injury Time to Earn Draw with Slovakia

Slovakia was just moments away from picking up three valuable points and jumping to the top of Group F play but when the final whistle sounded they had to settle for a single point as New Zealand managed to score a goal in injury time to earn a draw.

It was three minutes into stoppage time when Winston Reid headed home a long pass from Shane Smeltz, dashing the hopes of Slovakia who had a golden opportunity to put their stamp on the group.

After a scoreless first half Robert Vittek gave Slovakia a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute and had a strong chance to push the advantage to 2-0 about 20 minutes later but New Zealand’s Mark Paston managed to make a match saver to keep the Kiwis alive.

The draw leaves Group F deadlocked as Italy and Paraguay are sitting on a point apiece after their draw on Monday.
