Female Suicide Bomber Kills 39, Leaves More Than 50 Injured in Iraq

A female suicide bomber detonated an explosive amidst a group of Shiite worshippers on Monday, killing 39 and leaving at least 54 wounded.

The suicide bomber targeted Shiite worshippers who had gathered near the holy site of the Imam Hussein shrine in Karbala, about 50 miles south of Baghdad.

The site was heavily guarded by security officers but the woman managed to get within close enough range to cause large scale damage.
