REM to Perform at Royal Albert Hall in London March 24

REM will be performing live at Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom on Monday, March 24 at 7:30 pm.

Formed in Athens, Georgia, by Michael Stripe in 1980, R.E.M was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, gaining attention for the guitar style of Peter Buck and Stripe’s unique vocals.  The band was created with Stripe on vocals, Buck on guitar, Mike Mills on bass and Bill Berry on drums and percussion.

"Radio Free Europe" was the band’s first single, released in 1981 with an independent record label Hib-Tone.   The single, "Chronic Town EP" was later released in 1982 with I.R.S. Records.  The release of the band’s debut album Murmur, in 1983, is critically acclaimed and the platform from which the band continued to develop their reputation through more releases, touring and their support of college radio.

After years of success in the underground music industry, the band became mainstream in 1987 with their hit song “The One I Love.”  The group was then signed by Warner Bros. Records in 1988 and began to speak out their political and environmental concerns while performing at venues worldwide.

REM will be performing next at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, British Columbia on Friday, May 23.
