Flash Floods in Southern France Leave at least 15 Dead, Several Missing

Heavy downpours in southeastern France triggered powerful flash floods across the Cote D’Azur region leaving at least 15 people dead and several more missing.

Rains pounded the region on Tuesday and as the waters rushed down the surrounding mountains thousands of people were forced to flee their homes. The flash floods were strong enough to carry cars through the streets and collapse roads in the town of Draguignan.

Hundreds of homes were gutted by the flooding as many people had just enough time to make it to their roofs to await rescue.

With many of the towns in the area left devastated there were a number of shelters set up to house those who no longer had homes. Electricity throughout the area has been cut and rail and air service around the area has been interrupted by the flooding.
