Warehouse donated to school board but is infested with asbestos

BRISTOL, Vermont - The 39,000-square-foot Bristol Builder’s Supply-Central Warehouse building is going to be the new site of school administration offices.

After having formerly been a site for businesses to use as storage, the building was offered to the school board for free. Unfortunately, asbestos is present in the building and must be removed before the school board can use it.

If the mineral is not removed, those who will be working in the building will be exposed and be at risk for developing mesothelioma, a deadly cancer caused solely by asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma cancer is extremely difficult to diagnose, and by the time symptoms develop, it may be too late for those afflicted with the disease to seek help.

Treatment for mesothelioma is expensive and may not always work. Hiring a mesothelioma attorney may help to speed up the process of getting compensated for medical bills, lost wages and any pain the victims may be suffering. Mesothelioma attorneys work hard to help those afflicted with the cancer but victims only have about 12 months after the cancer develops to get treated successfully.

By law, contractors are required to remove and dispose asbestos from the site safely, according to proper procedures. Although the building itself was donated, the process to remove asbestos from the site is expensive, and can cost the school board over $2 million.
