Argentina can start packing for the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup after a dominating performance on Thursday in which they crushed South Korea 4-1 to improve to 2-0-0 in Group B play with just one game remaining. While the Argentineans could still mathematically miss out on the second round it is next to impossible.
The Argentineans had some help from South Korea early on in the match as Lionel Messi’s free kick in the 17th minute was defected in by Park Chu-Young for an own-goal and a 1-0 advantage. Argentina would move in front 2-0 when Higuain put home a header in the 33rd minute.
It looked like Argentina would head into the half with the 2-0 cushion but a defensive lapse gave South Korea hope when Lee Chung-Yong just before the break. Argentina wouldn’t allow that lapse to haunt them though as Higuain would add a pair of goals in the second half to cement the victory.
Argentina now sits atop Group B play with six points.
