The High Court in
Express Newspapers, owner of The Daily Express and Daily Star, was ordered to publish an apology as well as pay $1.1 million in damages following stories that appeared in each of the papers above alleging the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was directly connected to her parents. The headlines from each publication read “Kate and Gerry McCann: Sorry.”
In their letter of apology The Daily Express wrote, “Kate and Gerry, we are truly sorry to have added to your distress. We assure you that we hope Madeleine will one day be found alive and well and will be restored to her loving family.”
Madeleine McCann has been missing since last May. She disappeared while with her family at a Portuguese resort.
