The premature twins and the other unidentified infant were given 1,000 times the dosage of heparin they were supposed to be given. All three babies recovered.
The California Department of Public Health fined the hospital for violations that were “likely to cause, serious injury or death to patients.” A spokesman for Cedars Sinai says the hospital was cooperative with the investigators and will pay the fine.
Quaid and his wife Kimberly Buffington are suing the heparin manufacturer, Baxter Healthcare Corp. The couple accuses the corporation of negligence as they package different doses of the drug in similar colors and vials.
