Barack Obama’s Former Pastor Likened to Jesus in Eastern Sermon Delivered by New Pastor

The controversy surrounding Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his former pastor Jeremiah Wright Jr. took on added intensity on Easter Sunday when the new pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ delivered a sermon entitled ‘How to Handle a Public Lynching.”

Rev. Otis Moss III addressed the 8,000-member congregation with fervor as he likened Wright and the public reaction to his sermons as the equivalent to what Jesus was forced to encounter.

Obama had been forced into defending his membership at the church following several sermons delivered by Wright that declared the United States as institutionally racists and terrorist attacks on Americans was something that was born out of government policy. Several of Wright’s sermons have been played on media outlets and have sparked outrage from listeners who have criticized the pastor for perpetuating the divide between Americans and condoning violence against the country.

On Sunday Moss described the reaction as a “lynching” saying, “No one should start a ministry with lynching, no one should end their ministry with lynching. The lynching was national news. The RNN, the Roman News Network, was reporting it and NPR, National Publican Radio had it on the radio. The Jerusalem Post and the Palestine Times all wanted exclusives, they searched out the young ministers, showed up unannounced at their houses, tried to talk with their families, called up their friends, wanted to get a quote on how do you feel about the lynching.”

Barack Obama has disavowed several of Wright’s words but has not completely separated himself from the recently retired pastor. Obama was not in attendance on Sunday, opting to spend Easter on vacation with his family.
