Beatles Pal Neil Aspinall Dies at 66

Neil Aspinall, longtime friend of The Beatles, has died at the age of 66. Aspinall died at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City on Sunday. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer.

Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison announced Aspinall’s death in a statement. “As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil’s trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come,” the statement said.

They added that “all his friends and loved ones will greatly miss him but always retain the fondest memories of a great man.”

Aspinall was the chief executive of Apple Corps, which guards the band’s commercial interest. He stepped down from that position last year. He was also The Beatles first road manager and later became their personal assistant.
