Ohio State University football recruit Jamel Turner is in
critical condition after being shot multiple times early Saturday morning in
his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. Police say 17-year-old Tracy Banks was killed
in the shooting.
According to reports, Banks was babysitting a 4-year-old
girl when the shooting occurred. Banks and her boyfriend, Melvin Shaw, had been
arguing before the shots were fired. The girl was unharmed. Turner was found
shot near the house. Shaw is considered a suspect, but is not in police
custody.
Turner signed with the Ohio Buckeyes in February.
“I'm so sad to hear of Jamel's misfortune. I have not
communicated with Jamel, but am certainly praying for him at this time,” Ohio
State head football coach Jim Tressel said in a statement Saturday.
