Chase Tatum, a former WCW wrestler, was found dead late Sunday afternoon in his home in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. He was 34 years old.
Tatum died of an apparent accidental drug overdose.
Tatum was recovering from back surgery 10 days earlier to repair a degenerative disc. According to his father, Roy, Chase was battling a painkiller dependence for years but had made plans to enter a rehabilitation facility in Miami.
Tatum retired after about two-and-a-half years in the WCW. His brief time in wrestling left him battling severe back problems but without health insurance to pay for the surgery.
Tatum has just landed a movie role, slated to be filmed in New York. He previously landed a role in the film "Who's Your Caddy" with rapper Big Boi from the group OutKast.
Chase Tatum's funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta.
