Iran Bars Two UN Nuclear Inspectors from Entering Country

Iran has told the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that it will not allow two of its inspectors into the country, citing a report issued by the pair that, according to the government, contains inaccurate information.

According to Tehran the two inspectors published a report that accused the country of attempting to hide their nuclear intentions by removing equipment prior to an inspection. The inspectors claim that Tehran had admitted to carrying out experiments that could lead to the purifying of uranium for nuclear weapons yet the country later denied those claims when those inspectors accused Iran of removing the equipment necessary for those experiments prior to an inspection.

Just two weeks ago the UN Security Council approved a fourth round of sanctions on Iran for its failure to comply with orders regarding their nuclear program. Iran maintains that their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes yet many in the international community have expressed doubt, saying the country was enriching uranium to develop nuclear weapons.

The recent round of sanctions was dismissed by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who said they will be disregarded.

In regards to the two inspectors who are now barred entry from Iran the government stated “Their report was utterly untruthful and... we asked that they would not ever send these two inspectors to Iran and instead assign two others.”
