Arizona Wildfires Force Hundreds to Evacuate Homes, Firefighters Continue to Battle Blaze

A pair of wildfires in Arizona has charred thousands of acres of land and now threatens the city of Flagstaff, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate the area as firefighters continue to battle the fast moving blaze.

While there have been no reports of injuries or property damage officials have warned that the unpredictable flames could quickly consume homes and buildings if they are not contained soon.

Officials have been using more than 300 firefighters, a handful of helicopters and a number of air tankers to combat what has been dubbed the Schultz fire, a difficult task due to strong winds fanning the flames.

Authorities arrested one man in connection to the initial fire, what has been called the Hardy fire, alleging hot coals left behind in a campfire ignited those flames. The cause of the second, much larger, fire is unknown.
