2010 FIFA World Cup Scores: Portugal Dismantles North Korea in Group G Play to Keep Hopes Alive

Portugal took some frustration out on North Korea on Monday, blasting the side 7-0 to earn their first win at the 2010 World Cup and give themselves hope for a berth in the elimination round.

While North Korea kept Portugal off the board for nearly 30 minutes in the opening half when the floodgates opened there was little that could be done. Raul Meireles got the scoring started for Portugal in the 29th minute and that 1-0 advantage held until the half.

Portugal then came out in the second and unleashed hell of North Korea as Simão, Hugo Almeida and Tiago all scored within a seven minute stretch for a 4-0 lead. After 20 minutes of calm the next wave of hell struck as Liédson, Cristiano Ronaldo and Tiago scored within a nine minute stretch to wrap up the tally.

The seven goals should help Portugal in Group G play if they finish even with Ivory Coast. Portugal is currently in second place in the group with four points, two behind a Brazil squad they still have to face. Ivory Coast has one point and will face North Korea next.
