Kim Clijsters got her 2010 Wimbledon off to a solid start on Monday, taking care of Italy’s Maria Elena Camerin in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 to advance into the second round at the All England Club.
Clijsters needed just over an hour to dispatch Camerin, controlling the match with an accurate serve while taking advantage of just about every opportunity that was presented her. The Belgian collected four break points while never surrendering one of her own and struck 20 winners in the match compared to just six for Camerin.
Clijsters, the former world’s number one, captured her first Grand Slam singles title at the U.S. Open in 2005 after beating Mary Pierce and then in 2009 she marked her return to tennis with a dramatic run at the U.S. Open, eventually knocking off Caroline Wozniacki in the finals for her second Grand Slam singles title. She has reached the finals at the French Open twice and the Australian Open once.
