Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, caused a stir after naked pictures of her were put up for an auction Tuesday.
Auction house Christie's announced Tuesday that they sell photographs of former supermodel Bruni-Sarkozy in New York next month. The photos were taken by Michel Comte in 1993.
The timing was unique as the French President and French First Lady embark on their first official trip to the United Kingdom.
Sarkozy and the first lady were greeted by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall when they landed at London's Heathrow airport Wednesday morning.
The couple was then escorted to Windsor, where Sarkozy was formally received by the Queen and the Prince of Edinburgh.
Sarkozy will enjoy a formal state dinner at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night.
The U.K. media followed the courtship and eventual marriage of Sarkozy and Bruni. Sarkozy had recently gotten divorced from second wife Cecilia in 2007 after a 10-year marriage.
On Tuesday, Sarkozy hinted that he might boycott the opening ceremony on the Beijing Olympics this summer following French pressure to take a tough stance on the Chinese treatment of Tibet.
