Breast Friends Forever, a team that walked in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure last weekend, also won a $1000 contribution for its essay on the team.
Massage Envy, a long-time race supporter, sponsored two $1000 donations for the best essays on walk teams.
Laurie Brosius of Frisco, a Breast Friends Forever member who wrote the winning essay about her team, saw the race as an opportunity to “walk for the past, present and future.”
Ms. Brosius says she and her husband walked in memory of his mother, who lost her battle to breast cancer in 1996. “My best friend Nikki and her husband walked in memory of her grandmother,” she said.
The team also celebrated team member Cathy Rosen’s second year as a survivor. Teammate Ana Moss is also a survivor. “Nikki and I met Ana in 2008 when we walked 60 miles in the Komen 3-Day, and she has been through breast cancer more than once herself,” Ms. Brosius said.
She added that “We are also walking for the future, so that our daughters, nieces and other family members do not have to go through this in their lifetimes. We all have different reasons, but have come together to fight and have a common goal – to end breast cancer. Together, as Breast Friends, we can do it!”
“We had such an overwhelming response that we could not pick just one team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure sponsorship,” said Lance O’Pry, Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Developer for Massage Envy, the nation’s leading provider of massage therapy. “As a long-time supporter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the DFW Massage Envy clinics were thrilled to sponsor these two deserving teams.”
Besides its two $1000 donations, Massage Envy also supplied co-branded shirts to the two teams it sponsored. The three members on each team who raised the most money received a Massage Envy gift card for a free massage.
At the race, a special area at Massage Envy’s tent was reserved for team members to receive a free chair massage from Massage Envy therapists.
At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.
