O2 Media Along With Hit Morning Show ‘The Balancing Act’ Team Up With The American Cancer Society in the Relay For Life Event!

Fighting cancer takes a team effort!

(Pompano Beach, FL—June 2010)  Fighting cancer takes a team effort, and that’s why O2 Media along with The Balancing Act hosted the American Cancer Society ‘Relay for Life’ event in Huizenga Park- Downtown Fort Lauderdale.  Make sure you tune in Tuesday, June 29th as The Balancing Act airs a special show covering the event at 7:00am (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television.

O2 Media’s PR & Brand Manager, Steve Zucker says, “Everything that comes from O2 Media’s production company is a collaboration—or team effort.  When we learned of the Relay for Life event and how our team could combine their efforts to raise money and awareness about cancer, we volunteered to host the event.”

This year, the host of O2 Media’s hit morning show, ‘The Balancing Act’, Kristy Villa was the master of ceremonies. “I was honored to stand next to so many inspirational people filled with hope, love and perseverance”, Kristy commented.

The ‘Relay for Life’ event is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events and 18-hours in length.

With 30-team members from O2 Media present at the American Cancer Society ‘Relay for Life’— everyone took turns well into the night making their way around the track. O2 Media Marketing Director, Limor Windt says, “The impact that all of us can make together—is much greater than what any of us could do alone.”

To bring some excitement to the event, O2 setup a casino tent to raise money.  People played all night including 11-year old leukemia survivor Ryan, who led the survivors lap and won a raffle for him and his mom to be pampered for 2-nights at the Boca Raton Resort, in Boca Raton, Florida.

O2’s Social Media Coordinator and behind the scenes photographer Karyn Alvarado says, “People seemed to be really excited about our casino tent that had slot machines and black jack.  The fun & excitement got even more intense when Elvis entered the building.”

By joining or donating to a ‘Relay for Life’ team, you can be a part of a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer.  For more information please visit www.relayforlife.org.

About The American Cancer Society Relay For Life:  Relay For Life began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Relay has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease. Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 19 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Thanks to Relay participants, we are creating a world with more birthdays a world where cancer can’t claim another year of anyone’s life.

Anyone can participate in Relay For Life. Friends, families, neighbors, classmates, sports teams, etc., can form their own teams. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you at Relay.  The only requirement to participate in Relay For Life is the $100 team commitment fee that is due upon registration. After that, anything you can raise through individual, team, or online fundraising is graciously accepted. It is recommended that each participant to set a personal goal to raise $100. If you raise more, that's even better. Even if you do not raise $100, you are still welcome to participate.
