Wally Phillips, Legendary Radio Host, Dies at 83

Legendary Chicago radio host Wally Phillips has died at 83. WGN radio announced Thursday morning that Phillips had died in his Naples, Florida home. He had been battling Alzheimer’s disease since 2004.

Phillips first got into broadcasting at a small radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1956, he went to Chicago where he began hosting a morning talk show for WGN radio. He quickly became a local favorite and was the most popular radio personality for more than 20 years. Phillips retired in 1998. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993.
