The Transportation Security Administration denied Hamlin’s request for a female agent to look at the piercings and confirm they were not harmful. They insisted she remove them in order to fly. The 37-year-old removed one but struggled to remove the other. TSA agents gave her pliers to get the other off.
Hamlin was allowed to pass with her belly button ring in.
She is now requesting a civil rights investigation and an apology from TSA. “The last time I checked, a nipple was not a dangerous weapon,” said her attorney.
“I wouldn’t wish this experience upon anyone. My experience with TSA was a nightmare I had to endure. No one deserves to be treated this way,” Hamlin says.
