USA World Cup ends in historic fashion. Jozy Altidore and Landon Donavon attack the opposing goal like the running of the bulls in Spain. Breathing heavy and running low on fuel but high on adrenaline the two American all-star soccer legends came through in dramatic fashion.
The game that appeared to freeze time across cafes, bars, offices, and anywhere the game was viewed across the globe seemed to have a bitter sweet ending for Algeria when the magic happened.
Algeria needed at least a tie to advance to the next round of the Fifa World Cup against the favored American squad. The underdogs almost got away with a momentous achievement until the last minute of stoppage time.
If you didn’t have a chance to watch the game it was nothing less than spectacular on all fronts. Both teams had good possession time and controlled the ball well. Both teams held strong defensive lines. Both goalies were superb when needed. Both teams had the backing and pressure of their entire Country hovering over the field like a balled eagle gliding high.
Be sure to know that USA could have won what should have been a 2-0 game but the consistent referee blunders have cost the US team much heartache and non needed stress. The US appeared to have scored off a pass which was called offside’s by the sideline referee. Even the non-American announcer stated in his opinion against the off-sides call claiming the US has been possibly been robbed of another goal.
In the end the hard work of the US team paid off with Jozy Altidore sliding reaching and stretching with all his might to squeeze in a goal at the last second. His strong effort resulted in a rebound immediately followed up by the one and only Landon Donovan who struck a perfect shot into the back of the net. The screams cheers and joyful tears where ever so present from the players, fans, and Country in their corner.
