Zimbabwe’s PM Morgan Tsvangirai Drops Four Ministers from Cabinet after Poor Reviews

Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has dismissed four of his Movement for Democratic Change cabinet ministers following poor performance reviews since a power-sharing deal with President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party was struck more than a year ago.

Tsvangirai’s decision to dismiss the ministers is seen not only as a reaction to poor performance but also as a means of asserting his authority within the MDC,a party that has begun to show cracks in its unity.

Addressing the issue on Wednesday the MDC leader stated “The pace of reform has been painfully slow; abuses of power are still all too common; many people are still struggling to make a living wage and provide for their families.”

Tsvangirai went on to say “I am acutely aware that these and other challenges have led to the loss of confidence in the new administration amongst the electorate.”

The ministers dismissed included Energy Minister Elias Mudzuri and Housing Minister Fidelis Mhashu along with two other deputy ministers.
