This is scary for the beginner because of course you feel a terrible need to sell, sell, sell, and all you can see is a sales funnel with one sale after another lined up shining before you like a big golden grail.
However, if you really want to set up your sales funnel to sell, sell, sell you should start off by not trying to sell anything. You should instead give, give, give. One example of the beginning of a sales funnel that starts by giving would be:
a. Prospect is sent an email giving away a secret tip
b. Prospect is driven to a squeeze page promising more secrets in a free report
c. Prospect is sent the free report
Scary Sales Funnel Secret #2: Give away your best stuff.
Here's another sales funnel secret that's bound to scare the pants off you, especially if you're a sales funnel novice: when choosing what to give away on the front end, always pick something that is really, really good - be it information or a product. Pick your best stuff - or else why would your prospect want to continue any further down your sales funnel?
So, the free report mentioned in "step c" above of your sales funnel should definitely NOT be a "throwaway" free report with some information your prospect could find by doing a quick "about" search on Google. Give them one of your really, truly juicy secrets, something they would never guess, and make it interesting and thorough, and your prospect will be hooked..the best possible situation for you and your sales funnel.
Scary Sales Funnel Secret #3: Deliver more than they paid for.
I know, I know...as if giving away something on the front of your sales funnel wasn't enough, as if giving away some of your best stuff right up front wasn't enough, now you have to give them even more than you promised!
