King of Cornhole 2007 Crowned in Las Vegas

Battle of the Best Cornhole Pitchers

Saturday January 26, 2008 at the Sport Center of Las Vegas the 2007 King of Cornhole was crowned. Players from seven states and Canada converged on the gaming capital taking center stage to play against the best of the best cornhole players to decide who would be the 2007 King of Cornhole.

American Cornhole Organization (ACO) the Governing Body of the Sport of Cornhole presents the King of Cornhole as the culminating cornhole event of the year. What was once a Midwest cornhole event has quickly grown to an international event with much anticipation from the corn hole players.

Early morning ACO Cornhole Skill Challenge scores decide the afternoon King of Cornhole Tournament seeding. The Skill Challenge consists of - three (3) back to back ACO Frame Games (13 frames per game) played. The player throws 4 bags from one end and side of the board, this is considered one frame, then walks to throw 4 bags from the other end and side of the board - this way 7 frames are pitched from the right side and 6 frames are pitched from the left side or vice-versa. The player will throw a total of 52 bags per Frame Game with a perfect Frame Game score being 156. The total score is added for each Frame Game if your 3 game average is 285 or higher (95 per game) you qualify as an ACO Pro. The seeding worked by the higher your Frame Game score the higher your seeding for the tournament. Only the top 64 players make the cut to the King of Cornhole Bracket Challenge. The players, from all parts of North America, pitched their way to the finals. Two players from the Midwest - where the game of cornhole originated - emerged from the list of sixty-four to meet for the Best of Three finale to determine who was to be King of Cornhole.

Matt Guy, a Kentucky resident, the reigning King of Cornhole 2006 Champion, and his nemesis, Randy Atha from Ohio, King of Cornhole 2005 Champion met for the Championship Round. Matt Guy got off to an early lead and built on that lead to win the first game. Matt continued to have his bags drop in the second game, until finally, Randy put a series together and started closing the gap. Matt fought back and by the end of the second game he was crowned for the second year in a row as the King of Cornhole.

The excitement of the 2007 King of Cornhole Finals was recorded and can be found and viewed on the American Cornhole Organization website.
