R.E.M. to Kick Off North American Tour with May 25 Show in Burnaby, British Columbia May 23

Legendary alternative rock band and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees R.E.M. will be starting a run of shows in North America with a performance at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, British Columbia on May 23.

R.E.M. will then head to Quincy, WA to play at the Gorge Amphitheater on May 24 and follow that with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA on May 29.

Formed in 1980 by Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck and Bill Berry developed a massive following in Athens, Ga. and quickly became a college radio station favorite. Their first few years were marked by success with singles such as Radio Free Europe and Gardening at Night and by the time they released their debut album Murmur in 1983 they were well on their way to stardom.

In 1987 they released the single “The One I Love” which brought them mainstream success and they’ve never looked back. Along the way they influenced bands such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, the Replacements and several others.
