Owner of Wildlife Sanctuary Mauled by Cheetahs

Judy Berens, owner of the Panther Ridge Conservation Center in Wellington, Florida, was mauled by a pair of cheetahs on Saturday while conducting an exhibition in front of visitors.

Berens suffered nearly 40 puncture wounds in the attack and had to be airlifted to Delray Medical Center but the injuries were said to be non-life threatening.

The attack occurred while Berens was in an enclosure with the two male cheetahs and apparently one of the cats became distracted by a ball that had been bounced outside the enclosure. One of the cats then knocked Berens to the ground and began biting and clawing her. At some point during the attack the second cat pounced on Berens as well.

Several people rushed inside and were able to rescue her.

The cheetahs are now being kept in cages on the property.
