Signs of Drug Abuse Campaign Launched

Narconon Drug Rehab Educates Parents

Do you know if your neighbor or co-worker is high? Do you suspect that your son or daughter may be using? They wouldn’t would they? Could they?

On Saturday, Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia launched a public awareness campaign that is aimed at helping people understand and recognize the signs of drug abuse, and give them education on how to deal with suspected drug abuse in the family.

“Too many people are taken by surprise by the sudden revelation that a loved one is using drugs,” comments Mary Rieser, Executive Director for Narconon Drug Rehab. “They never think that the person they love could ever even think of using drugs. Only after the problem gets too big do the small clues start to make sense. By then it is too late. The person is a drug addict.

“We are educating the public on what to look for, so that they can start taking preventative actions now, and not be surprised or fooled in the future.”

The weekend started with a drug education seminar at the Narconon Drug Rehab Center to concerned parents. Topics covered included the signs of drug abuse, dealing with lies, and how to do a proper drug intervention, among others.

Ms. Rieser commented, “No one is taught in school about how to identify drug abuse. Yet, with the amount of drug use currently affecting teens in school, it is imperative for parents to learn all about it. We want to focus on prevention and improving family relations. Too many young promising lives are being lost. We want to educate parents and the public so they can avoid potentially serious situations.

“People on drugs tend to lie about their usage. Using a home drug testing kit can be difficult and embarrassing. Products can be purchased through the internet that mask positive results. Yet, the life of a friend or a family member may utterly depend on you correctly identifying their drug or alcohol abuse. Once the problem is out in the open, it can be addressed.”

Education seminars will continue and more public service announcements will be made to educate all.
