Alphonso Jackson, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary, resigned from his post Monday.
Jackson announced his resignation at a brief press conference Monday morning, citing personal and family matters. He will step down effective April 18.
Jackson said he will assist in finding his replacement.
A former president and CEO of the Dallas Housing Authority, Jackson dealt with attacks that he was involved in cronyism.
Jackson was involved in an ongoing probe by a federal grand jury, the Justice Department, the FBI and the HUD inspector general. However, he said he had nothing to do with the situation that was under investigation.
Jackson was named HUD secretary in March 2004. He joined the Bush administration in 2001 as HUD's deputy secretary and chief operating officer.
