(Pompano Beach, FL) “Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you sleep alone.” This quote from Anthony Burgess may be humorous, but unfortunately snoring and pauses in breathing during sleep are no laughing matter. Tune in to The Balancing Act June 28th at 7:00 am (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television as Dr. Rochelle Goldberg, president of the American Sleep Apnea Association, discusses snoring and how it can be an indicator for more serious afflictions.
Sleep apnea is a medical condition that is reported to affect over 18 million people in the U.S., many of whom are not even aware of its existence. “Quite a few sleep apnea cases go unreported,” Dr. Goldberg explains. “Sufferers attribute symptoms like fatigue, poor concentration, headaches, and depression to other life issues. The Balancing Act is a great way for us to educate viewers about sleep apnea and how it is diagnosed and treated.”
Those who experience symptoms like snoring, restless sleep, and frequent trips to the bathroom in the night can have a “sleep test” where electrodes are attached to the body to record physical activity during slumber. This test is typically covered under most medical plans, and can aid doctors in diagnosing sleep apnea and determining the best treatments for the condition.
“Having Dr. Goldberg on ‘The Balancing Act’ has brought yet another great solution to women, one that will have a real impact, and help them balance their lives. This is the essence of solutions-based programming, and we are proud that we could bring this information to our viewers” says Doug Campbell, Founder and Executive VP of Programming for The Balancing Act.
Sleep apnea can be a precursor to more serious afflictions like high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, and diabetes, but an early diagnosis can make all the difference. The American Sleep Apnea Association is dedicated to providing resources and guidance for sleep apnea sufferers at www.sleepapnea.org.
