Burglar Plays Dead in Funeral Home

A man broke into a funeral home in Burjassot, Spain and attempted to play dead to avoid being arrested.

Police and the owner of the Crespo Funeral Home were searching the funeral parlor after nearby neighbors notified authorities that they heard the front door being forced open. Officers found the 23-year-old Spanish man, whose name has not been released, laying on a table in a glassed-in chamber used for wakes.

The man was caught because he was breathing and was wearing dirty, wrinkled clothes.

“The custom here is for dead people to be dressed in suits, in nice clothes that look presentable. This guy was in everyday clothes that were wrinkled and dirty,” said a police officer. “He was trying to fake being dead, but he was breathing.”

The man had previously served jail time on robbery charges.
