If you've been using SendStudio as your Automatic Responder for long at all, then you've probably fallen in love… I can understand why too - after all, SendStudio is a well designed, stable, locally hosted automatic responder (autoresponder) that can more than handle the newsletter and blast mailing needs of practically any email marketer.
But like any locally hosted mass email sender, SendStudio is only as good as it's deliverability. Believe it or not, the email deliverability problems you might be seeing have more to do with your domain, your IP, and the content of your emails than it has to do with SendStudio itself.
Troubleshooting deliverability problems in SendStudio can be a royal pain in the neck - - but here are three tips that will help you get more mail in the inbox, and less in the dreaded SPAM filters:
Tip #1: Run a DNS check on your domain using mxtoolbox.com. If your domain or IP have been blacklisted, you'll quickly find out. a blacklisted domain or IP address will mean that any email you send from SendStudio will be flagged at the ISP's, and won't reach the intended inboxes. If you find that your IP or domain has been blacklisted, don't get depressed, get active. You can contact the admins at the various blacklists to straighten the problem out, find out why you were flagged in the first place, and avoid further nightmares.
Tip #2: Always do a content check on your newsletters and email broadcasts before sending out of SendStudio. You can find a great list of SPAM checkers by doing a quick Google search - there are some free ones available, but for the long run it may benefit you to get an account with ReturnPath, which has excellent reporting.
But the content of your newsletter doesn't just have to do with what it SAYS, it often has to do with the domains you link to. If you're using SendStudio to mail out as an affiliate, or even using a URL shortener to shrink your links, you could be unwittingly linking to blacklisted domains. Always run the domains you link to through a DNS check before you blast out of SendStudio, just to be safe.
Tip #3: Follow email marketing best practices. If you're not already up to speed on the industry standards, then it will really pay to put in a few solid hours of research before you send out from SendStudio next... I'll save you some time by giving you some guidelines to follow to make your SendStudio broadcasts more favorable to the ISP's…
Note #1) Don't use SendStudio to send emails with attachments. If you must include a document with your email broadcast, then use a small PDF file. ISP's see attachments as potential risks for carrying viruses, trojans, and spyware.
Note #2) Don't use a redirect link in your emails. Try using SendStudio's easy to use email creator to draft HTML emails with text based hyperlinks instead of those long ugly URL's. An example of the type of code you might include for your link could be:
<a href=http://www.yoursite.com/your-long-ugly-link target=_blank>Click Here</a>
BTW: SendStudio features a WYSIWYG editor that lets you do this much easier than coding by hand.
Note #3) Cut down on any images in your email. When you're designing your newsletter in SendStudio, try getting the look and feel you want with simple HTML design. If you want to use an image for branding purposes, make sure it's not too big - if it is, then mobile users and readers with slower connections might not be able to quickly read your newsletter.
SendStudio is an incredibly powerful piece of software, but even with perfect deliverability you might not be seeing the results you hoped for. My biggest tip for getting more traffic, and more income from every email you send from SendStudio is to build your subscriber base a little bit every day. Thanks to some great advancements in web technology and email marketing strategy, that's now easier than ever before.
