Martin Luther King Jr. to be Honored as Memphis, Tennessee Ceremony Recognizes Slain Civil Rights Advocate
On the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the city in which the civil rights leader was slain will hold a ceremony to honor the man.
Included in the MLK ceremonies will be a “recommitment march” which will culminate in the laying of wreaths outside the Lorraine Motel, the site where King was gunned down by a single bullet fired from James Earl Ray.
The Lorraine Motel has since been turned into the National Civil Rights Museum and houses most of the traveling exhibits that trace the civil rights movement in the United States.
Republican presidential nominee John McCain and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be on hand at the ceremonies while Barack Obama was scheduled to be campaigning in Indiana.
