Fenway Hawk Protects Red Sox Home Field, Attacks 13-Year-Old Girl Named Alexa Rodriguez

Alexa Rodriguez, a 13-year-old student from Memorial Boulevard Middle School, was with her classmates taking part in a tour of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, on Thursday when the teenager found out more than just the BoSox call the fabled park home.

Rodriguez apparently angered a red-tailed hawk that was perched on a railing in the upper deck of the park. In one swoop the hawk took aim at A-Rod and with its talons extended drew blood from the young girl’s scalp.

A single egg was discovered in a woolen hat that the Hawk had been using as a nest and it is believed that may have caused the aggressive behavior but many are pointing at the girl’s name as the true reason. Of course Alexa Rodriguez is eerily similar to New York Yankees MVP third baseman Alex Rodriguez, a target of Red Sox ridicule for the past several years.

Alexa was not seriously hurt in the attack but was said to be shaken by the incident. State wildlife officials removed the nest and egg from the park but the Fenway hawk remains.

The strike was caught on film by Boston Globe staff member John Tlumacki
