U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates Says Additional Troops will be Sent to Afghanistan
U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has said that additional troops will be sent to Afghanistan in 2009 as a means of helping NATO in their effort to repair the war-torn country.
While not disclosing a exact number Gates did indicate that the troop surge would be significant regardless of U.S. troop levels in Iraq.
The U.S. currently has about 30,000 troops in Afghanistan.
