April 4, 2008 Marks 40th Anniversary of MLK Assassination

April 4 marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, the world-renowned civil rights activist.

On April 4, 1968, Dr. King was assassinated outside of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. James Earl Ray admitted to assassination, but there are conspiracy theorists who believe otherwise, pondering the question "Who killed Martin Luther King?".

Two months after MLK's assassination, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. the brother of former President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated. Sirhan Sirhan admitted to the murder, which took place five years after John was assassinated.

The Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the hotel where Dr. King was assassinated, has been converted into the National Civil Rights Museum since 1991.

Several photos regarding the assassination were added to the pictures gallery.
