Hawaiian Airlines Fills Void Following Demise of Aloha Air and ATA

DestinationVillas.com Editor Predicts Increase in Hawaii Vacation Costs

Hawaiian Airlines wasted no time in filling the void left by Aloha Airlines and ATA Airlines, following their shutdowns. This week they announced they will run daily service between Oakland California and Honolulu beginning in May 2008.

Hawaiian Airlines is the state’s biggest airline offering flights to nine mainland cities, including four that were previously serviced by the now defunct ATA Airlines. It also controls a large segment of the interisland Flights.

Tori Milan,
DestinationVillas.com’s editor predicts that air travel to the Hawaiian Islands will get more expensive. “It is expected that the remaining airlines will have difficulty maintaining lower fares due to the high cost of fuel." states Milan. "Hawaii has lost two cruise ships and two airlines since January. The potential for higher airfares may result in a decline in tourism to Hawaii this year." On a positive note, Hawaii vacation rentals are still very reasonably priced and have been over the last 15 months. It is possible to rent a Hawaii vacation home for as little as $99/night.
