Two Firefighters Killed Battling Blaze in Cincinnati, Ohio

Two firefighters battling a blaze at a Cincinnati, Ohio home died on Friday when the first floor they were on collapsed and they became trapped in the basement.

Capt. Robin Broxterman, 37, a 17-year veteran and Brian Schira, 29, were part of the Engine Company 102 that responded to the fire in Colerain Township shortly after 6:00 a.m.  The two occupants who had been in the house were able to escape before the firefighters arrived but the firefighters entered the residence to search as a precautionary measure.

The two lost contact with the rest of the crew and by 6:45 a.m. a safety response team was sent into the house to search for firefighters. They discovered an unmanned hose and about 30 minutes later located the two bodies in the house’s basement.
