Train Your Own Sustainability Officer

Every Company Needs a Sustainability Officer

The Sustainable Forum is the next evolution for the Green Business League.  Evidence seems clear that a sustainability officer will be needed in every business, regardless of size.  Companies seeking Green business certification and success as a sustainable business will need to train an in-house sustainability office to handle what is certain to be a major part of any business' future.

The problems is that the concept of the sustainability officer has been pull in many directions, and can be poorly done or totally missing the mark.  After all, most sustainability offices are the lone "man on a mission" trying to make a real difference in the company's operation and the community.

This does not happen by the use of energy audits, solar panel installations, or recycling programs.  A true sustainability plan is a comprehensive and holistic plan that starts out as a sustainability policy, and then moves on to become a sustainability plan.

Where does a company find this kind of expertise?  The Green Business League is a leader in Green business certifications, but does far more.  Unlike so many shallow Green certifications, the Green Business League provides audited certifications.  GBL has trained more than 350 Certified Green Consultants nationwide and now is installing local peer review and training centers under The Sustainable Forum program.

Here's the good part.  You don't need a college degree to be a sustainability officer, but you do need training.  Starting with monthly meetings that are open to businesses of all size, a company can appoint someone already on the payroll, and get them trained.

Local expertise comes in the form of trained professional leadership, a programmed course of development, and plenty of online training to augment the educational needs of the members.  There is no need to spend four years in college when everything is online and supported by quality trainer locally.

To find out more, check the website regularly.  New Sustainable Forums are opening each month; and if you are excited about the idea in your community, efforts are made to open a new forum in your area.

Businesses can expect a lot more pressure for environmental compliance, energy and carbon reduction regulations, and local programs that expect a higher level of commitment.  Done right, the task of Greening a company can be daunting, and it is going to get far more intense.  Appointing a sustainability officer for your business is crucial, and the sooner you do it, the better.

The Sustainability Forum (
http://www.thesustainableforum.com/) is not a networking event.  It is designed for the education of sustainability officers and the development of best practices in this area of expertise.  Successful integration of a properly developed sustainability plan is the best way to earn a credible Green business certification through the Green Business League. Finally, there is a straight-forward method for Greening your company and installing sustainable practices.  We encourage businesses everywhere to join in the effort to make the Triple Bottom Line part of the success of their company's future.
