Japan’s Oldest Person Dies at 113

According to officials Japan’s oldest person, Kaku Yamanaka, has died at the age of 113 years on Saturday.

 

Yamanaka had been taken to a hospital from her nursing home early Saturday morning after she became ill; she died a short time after her arrival.  

 

Yamanaka was born on Dec. 11, 1894 and became her country’s oldest person in February after Tsuneyo Toyonaga past away. Health Ministry officials have not named Japan’s new oldest person.

 

The oldest person currently recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records is Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Indiana.
