Party Near Michigan State Campus Turns Violent, Police Use Tear Gas to Disperse Unruly Crowd

A massive party near the campus of Michigan State turned violent late Saturday night and police who arrived on the scene to quell the gathering were hit with bottles and cans until they resorted to firing tear gas into the crowd.

The party took place at Cedar Village, a student-housing complex in East Lansing that has had its fair share of party problems. On Saturday night police estimated a crowd of 3,000 o 4,000 people, many of whom were not students at Michigan State.

There were reports of several fights breaking out and when police arrived they fund themselves being bombarded with bottles and cans. As a last resort the officers fired tear gas and were able to arrest 52 people while ticketing another 48.
