Shane Hammond Killed at Thompson International Speedway

A racecar driver was killed Sunday at the Thompson International Speedway after he hit another car, flipped over a concrete wall and crashed into a billboard. Shane Hammond, 27, was taken to the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam and was pronounced dead.

The accident happened during the third lap of 25 of the 2008 Ice Breaker. Hammond’s midget car hit another car driven by Chris Leonard.

Connecticut police are working with NASCAR to learn more about the accident.
