Rafael Nadal took another step toward capturing his eight career Grand Slam singles title as the Spaniard marched past Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
Nadal managed to control the match with a first serve that produced points on 86% of those offerings put in play. He finished with eight aces in the match and committed just nine unforced errors while collecting 36 winners.
Nadal has seven career Grand Slam singles titles with one of those titles coming at Wimbledon following an epic finals battle with Roger Federer. The Spaniard has also collected five French open titles along with an Australian Open title, leaving only the U.S. Open as the only Grand Slam event the 24-year-old hasn’t captured.
