Chicago, IL - June 29, 2010 - CampusBooks, the most popular textbook price comparison website, released its Android app today. With this launch, CampusBooks becomes the first textbook price comparison service with mobile apps for both iPhone and Android platforms.
The CampusBooks mobile application enables students to compare prices on the go. Using the camera on their iPhone or Android, students can scan the barcode of textbooks found at their school's bookstore. In seconds, the CampusBooks price comparison engine displays the cheapest prices for the book from a database of over three dozen of the largest textbook retail and rental services.
"The price of textbooks continues to rise at an incredible rate. We enable students to instantly compare all available prices for a book to ensure they get the best rate," says Jeff Cohen, CEO of CampusBooks. "Our hope in expanding our service to the Android platform is that more students will use our cost-saving technology. If we can save more students money, everybody wins."
In recent years the rise of mobile-powered, barcode scanning technology has brought price comparison engines into brick and mortar retail. CampusBooks is the first price comparison service to use this technology exclusively for textbooks. This year, as the price of tuition continues to rise and the economy continues to struggle, students will be looking for new inventive ways to save money. The CampusBooks mobile app is sure to be one of the tools many students embrace in this effort.
