Rosacea Treatment Information offered online by Chicago Dermatologist, Sharon L. Horton M.D.
Rosacea treatment options are now available online directly from the source patients trust – their own physician. Although there is no cure for rosacea, a variety of rosacea treatments are available that will reduce its appearance and prevent further progression. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness and swelling of the face that can also affect the scalp, neck, ears, chest, and back.
Chicago dermatologist Dr. Sharon Horton provides her patients and the greater Chicago area with online access to handouts about rosacea including detailed information on the signs and symptoms of rosacea, a rosacea diary and rosacea treatment options including topical medications, as well as laser and light therapies, and surgical procedures (used mostly for advanced cases). These treatments are often combined for better results.
Oracea® (doxycycline) is an oral medication prescribed for the treatment of rosacea. It is prescribed primarily to treat the inflammatory lesions (red bumps, blemishes, and pustules) that occur with rosacea subtype 2.
Dr. Horton earned her medical degree from Chicago Medical School. She completed an internal medicine residency at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and a dermatology residency at Wayne State University, where she was the Chief Resident. She received additional training through a one-year fellowship in Mohs surgery at the Stough Clinic in Arkansas. Dr. Horton is a professional member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, The American Society for Dermatologic Surgeons and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Sharon L Horton, M.D. joins other dermatologists who use the Vivacare Patient Education service to help patients and local community learn about their health and treatment options.
